QR ordering brings a smile to Twentsche Foodhal
Erik Wooldrik of Twentsche Foodhal decided to significantly expand his terrace during the COVID period and chose QR ordering to ensure both safe distancing and fast service.
“We had held the terrace permit for nearly 700 m² for some time, but when we became tight on space due to the COVID crisis and the measures, that was the perfect moment to transform our outdoor area into a Twentsche testing ground.” And the result is beautiful. Thanks to the cozy corners, beach chairs, cheerful lights, live cooking, and even a DJ on weekends, the atmosphere is on par with a food truck festival or a great beach club. The ultimate place for a real holiday feeling. “Our terrace is spacious and accommodates 120 guests. Because it is so large, we were still able to organize several successful events despite all the restrictions, which attracted many guests.”
Ordering drinks with QR codes
To ensure good service on the terrace, Wooldrik introduced DISH QR Ordering for drink orders. Guests scan the QR code on the table signs with their smartphone. They are then directed to a special ordering website for Twentsche Foodhal, choose their order, and pay online immediately. “We were already planning to start using QR ordering, but due to the crisis we implemented it sooner. This way, we can easily maintain distance while keeping the speed of our service high.”
More time for hospitality
“We rolled this out in two weeks. It’s an achievement I’m still proud of. Guests also really enjoy ordering this way and pick it up very quickly. We receive compliments on the speed of serving and the retention of personal service. Additionally, it reduces our staffing costs by 12.5%. And because guests can always order quickly themselves, the pressure on our team is lower. They actually have extra time to make a warm, friendly chat with guests. Shortly after implementation, about 25% of revenue came from QR codes. That really shows how quickly it was embraced.”
Dishes from 8 world cuisines
From the eight world kitchens of Twentsche Foodhal comes delicious food and drinks from all corners of the globe. The focus is mainly on honest, local ingredients that have been harvested or raised within a maximum of 40 kilometers around Enschede. The menus are regularly updated, so your taste buds are treated to something new each time. Think Ribs & Wings, vegan tacos, or a delicious Indonesian rendang. “Who comes to taste, comes back,” says Wooldrik. Enschede embraced the concept immediately. “I saw that there was more room in Twente for innovative food concepts, and that there were many talented chefs ready who had been dreaming for years of starting something in hospitality. I could bring those two things together here perfectly!”
