Hotel Restaurant Oranjerie 't Vogelhuis
Luxury hotel rooms with both cold and hot water: a rarity in the 1930s. With their warm, personal approach, the family business Vogelhuis-Oranjerie quickly earned a place in the hearts of both locals and tourists. They have now been the example of Texel hospitality for 80 years. In the summer, Anton van der Vis and his team serve as many as 300 guests a day with a delicious meal!
Anton proudly talks about the history of Vogelhuis-Oranjerie. “In 1934, when tourism here was still in its infancy, my grandfather and grandmother had an extremely luxurious hotel built. All the rooms had running water, both cold and hot, and electric lighting. Very special for that time! Texel was already known for its beautiful nature and birds. My grandparents therefore decided not to give the rooms numbers, but bird names. Hotel ’t Vogelhuis was born.”
The secret of hospitality
From 1992 onward, ’t Vogelhuis continued as a restaurant under the name Vogelhuis-Oranjerie. (Oranjerie means greenhouse. The new conservatory, full of beautiful flowers and plants, inspired the addition to the name.) It quickly became one of the most popular venues on Texel. According to Anton, the secret lies in hospitality. “We want every guest to feel at home, and we offer a very extensive menu with friendly prices. Whether you want to eat a pancake or a sole, simply have a cup of coffee, or celebrate a party, our doors are open to everyone! The cozy fireplace, beautiful conservatories, and large terrace with a fenced playground make sure that young and old have a wonderful time here.”
Continuous innovation
Vogelhuis-Oranjerie never stands still. “For as long as I can remember, we use the winter to renovate or renew the inventory. In 2016, the terrace and playground were renovated. In 2017, we replaced the tables and chairs, and next year the entire kitchen will be revamped. It’s even so extreme that guests notice immediately if nothing major has changed in a year. ‘No renovations this year?’ they ask. No, sitting still will never happen here. We always want to keep moving forward!”
Ready for the future thanks to DISH
Anton wants to be ready for the future, which is why he chose the DISH POS system. Because DISH is flexible, Vogelhuis can always respond to the wishes of their guests. Communication runs much better than in the past. And wherever Anton is, as long as he has internet, he has insight into the results.
Integrations
What works exceptionally well at Restaurant Vogelhuis-Oranjerie is the combination of the POS system with other DISH Bricks such as DISH Bar and Kitchen Manager. Through the integration with DISH Staff Planner and payroll software Nmbrs, the accountant has the necessary information to process payroll within two minutes after the hours have been approved.
