Fashion meets Hospitality at Café NR5
In the center of Huissen, Café NR5 opened its doors in April 2017. What makes it special is the direct connection with the clothing store Broekman Mode. What started as a cup of coffee, a toastie, or a soup before or after shopping has grown into an attractive, full-fledged hospitality venue. Guests enjoy delicious dishes that are prepared with love. With a large terrace and popular takeaway lunches, it is regularly busy. To consistently deliver high quality and a great experience, it is important to organize everything smartly. Hostess Joyce Janssen talks about their concept and operations.
Fashion meets hospitality
Café NR5 is part of clothing store Broekman Mode, one of the oldest businesses in Huissen and therefore a well-known name in the village. The hospitality venue is connected to the fashion store through an open passage. “Fashion and hospitality inspire and strengthen each other. People come to us for a cup of coffee or a nice lunch before or after shopping, and guests who come here just to enjoy a meal often pop into the store as well. But even separate from the store, guests know how to find us.”
Maximum experience
“We have experienced staff and focus on the experience. Our chef, Gerie Nuy, is great at creating and preparing amazing artisanal dishes. Around the open kitchen there are 10 seats, so our guests can watch the creations come to life.”
QR ordering as an additional ordering option
“We have a terrace with 75 seats, which gets nicely full in good weather. On sunny days, we work with two staff members, each responsible for their own area. The goal is to take orders personally as much as possible, but we have very consciously chosen QR ordering as an additional ordering option. We saw that it was already being used frequently by other venues, and if people want to quickly order a cup of coffee or something else tasty, they can always do so. That is nice for the guests and for us. Especially during the real peak moments, it helps us to always be able to serve quickly.”
Efficiency behind the bar and in the kitchen
“An essential requirement for serving quickly is that the processes behind the bar and in the kitchen are set up smartly. If they are not, you lose a lot of time and guests have to wait too long. From the start, we chose DISH’s digital bar and kitchen screens. Because all orders appear as digital tickets on the screens, we know exactly what needs to be done and can work more efficiently. Preparation runs faster and more smoothly as a result. Everyone also knows exactly what the status of the orders is. This creates calm and clarity.”
Ordering website for takeout
Café NR5 also offers their guests the option to order online for takeout. “We actually made this choice out of necessity during the pandemic, and it turned out to be a good move! To this day, we still use the ordering website. The delicious fresh lunches are especially popular. This allowed us to serve a target group that doesn’t have time to have a long lunch on-site, and we expanded our customer base and, of course, our revenue. Through DISH’s back office, it is easy to make changes to our assortment and to create attractive specials and promotions. That works well.”
“I am very proud of our concept and the way we serve our guests, and I look forward to a wonderful, busy summer.”
